长难句长难句！首先是在长度上会让同学们有排斥的感觉，而很多时候，我们发现很多句子中会有一些冗余的成分，并不影响我们对句子的理解，但第一眼看去，同学们很觉得很长，就会觉得很难，不愿意再深入下去。

今天我们要讨论的就是，在最快的方法，把句子缩短，这就是利用插入语的妙处，我们一起来看几个例子。

1. No longer. The Internet — and pressure from funding agencies, who are questioning why commercial publishers are making money from government-funded research by restricting access to it — is making access to scientific results a reality.

2. The tourist streams are not entirely separate. The sightseers who come by bus — and often take in Warwick Castle and Blenheim Palace on the side — don’t usually see the plays, and some of them are even surprised to find a theatre in Stratford.

这两个句子很多同学再一看就开始发懵了，就觉得太长，好像大家都不太愿意看了。但是我们交给大家一个技巧，其实不用看那么多，在这里给大家看一个神奇的符号，破折号 “——”，句子成分的部分其中就包括一种什么呢？

叫做插入语。

插入语一般都不是一个句子最核心的部分，它都是后插进来的，表示一种补充。所以大家会发现，在这里很明显，左边一个括折号，右边一个括折号，中间内容跟两边的关系并不是特别大。而且你从长相可以看得出来，它是后插进来的。因此这种插入语我们可以把它先去掉不看。所以大家发现，一旦把这个句子不看了之后，这个句子立马是不是就短了四分之一。于是这两个句子就变成了：

1. No longer. The Internet is making access to scientific results a reality.

这句话的主谓就是The Internet is making access。

2. The tourist streams are not entirely separate. The sightseers who come by bus don’t usually see the plays, and some of them are even surprised to find a theatre in Stratford.

这句话的主干就剩下了The sightseers see the plays, and some of them are even surprised。是不是就很简单了！

好了，那还有同学说，老师，除了这个括折号之外，还有什么呢？那么我们就看一下，插入语有什么特点呢？

有的时候会出现逗号，有的时候出现括号。这种一般情况下我们都可以把它先去掉不看，所以这个句子就简单了，所以这个句子长没关系，我们先把插入与部分去掉，然后再层层剥离，直到主句主干。比如说：

Giovanni Parmigiani, a biostatistician at the Harvard School of Public Health, a member of the SBoRE group, says he expects the board to “play primarily an advisory role.”

这个句子我们可以去掉哪些内容呢？比如a biostatistician at the Harvard School of Public Health, a member of the SBoRE group,这些都不重要，为什么，人物的身份和地位的介绍都不重要，重要的是他的观点，那么这句话就只剩下了：Giovanni Parmigiani says he expects the board to “play primarily an advisory role.”
